PaRting Words from Maddie Lewis

By Maddie Lewis

As the semester is coming to an end, I can’t believe I’ve been here for 16 weeks already. It feels like not too long ago that I was so nervous to have my interview with Diana. I remember hearing about this internship at one of Hofstra’s communications internship fairs, and after meeting Diana I knew I wanted to apply.

Coming into this internship I was extremely excited to have the opportunity to take my first steps in the PR world. This is my first internship, so I couldn’t wait to see how the industry compares to the things I learned in class. It wasn’t too different from what I was expecting, and for the most part, it was easy to transfer what I learned in class to my assignments here.

During my time here I have learned how to use Cision, create media lists, draft pitch letters, interact with clients, design Instagram posts and captions, record TikToks and now write blog posts! My favorite thing I got to do was work on the social media aspect of the company. I enjoyed using Canva to make the Instagram posts and making sure they fit the color scheme of the company’s Instagram. The creative aspect of composing these graphics and making TikToks is why I liked it the most.

Throughout it all Diana has been an amazing mentor and I’m so grateful to have been offered this internship. Her guidance has been so insightful and I will definitely carry this internship with me to other internships and jobs I have in the future.
